Brand Spotlight: Meet Natu—Modern Shaving, Made in Portugal

What if switching from plastic cartridge razors didn’t require learning an entirely new way to shave?

That question helped inspire Natu, a thoughtfully designed new shaving brand created in Portugal by three mechanical engineers with years of experience in traditional wet shaving. We’re excited to introduce the Natu collection at Super Safety Razors (shipping directly from New York), including its innovative pivoting-head single-edge razor, coordinating synthetic shaving brushes and naturally scented shaving soap.

Meet the Creators Behind Natu

Natu was founded by Portuguese mechanical engineers João Moniz Gomes, Luís Oliveira and André Guimarães—the same team that created TATARA Razors. For nearly a decade, they have worked in the wet-shaving industry designing precision-engineered traditional safety razors. During that time, they repeatedly heard from people who liked the lower waste, affordable blades and shaving benefits of safety razors but found them more difficult or time-consuming to use than familiar cartridge razors.

Traditional safety razors require the user to find and maintain the proper shaving angle. That can be part of the appeal for experienced wet shavers, but it can also discourage people who simply want an easy, comfortable shave—particularly when shaving the legs, underarms, head or other curved areas. The founders saw an opportunity to bring the best parts of these two shaving systems together.

Natu was created to offer the familiar movement and convenience of a pivoting cartridge razor without the expensive proprietary cartridges and ongoing plastic waste. The brand builds upon the team’s engineering experience while introducing a more approachable style of single-edge shaving for both men and women. Natu’s development was initially supported through a successful Kickstarter campaign, where more than 250 supporters helped bring the idea into production. The company is also a University of Porto spin-off incubated at UPTEC, the university’s science and technology park.

A Safety Razor That Feels Familiar
At the center of the collection is the Natu Single Edge Safety Razor. Its pivoting head follows the natural curves and contours of the body, so the user doesn’t need to continually maintain a precise shaving angle. If you already shave with a cartridge razor, the movement should feel comfortable and familiar. However, instead of passing three, four or five blades over the skin at once, Natu uses one sharp blade. This can help reduce the repeated scraping that may contribute to irritation, redness and razor bumps for some shavers. The razor can be used from head to toe, including the face, scalp, legs, underarms and other sensitive areas.

No Expensive Proprietary Cartridges
Although Natu has the convenience of a pivoting razor, it doesn’t lock you into a particular brand of plastic replacement cartridges. The razor uses affordable, widely available half double-edge blades that can cost as little as approximately 10 cents each. You can purchase ready-made half blades or carefully snap a standard double-edge blade in half while it is still inside its paper wrapper.

Integrated magnets help position and hold the blade securely during loading, making blade changes quick and uncomplicated. Each Natu razor purchased from Super Safety Razors currently includes 100 Parker Premium Platinum half blades, giving you an excellent supply of replacement blades from the start.

Precision Engineered and Made in Portugal
The Natu razor is precision CNC-machined in Portugal from solid, corrosion-resistant aluminum. It feels durable and well made while remaining lightweight and easy to maneuver around the body. With proper care, the razor is designed to provide years of dependable shaving. Only the small stainless-steel blade needs to be replaced, greatly reducing the plastic and mixed-material waste created by conventional cartridge systems. The razor is available in several distinctive anodized colors, including black, copper, gold, green and grey.

A Complete Natu Shaving Routine
Natu has also created a matching brush and shaving soap to complete the routine. The Natu Synthetic Shaving Brush combines soft, cruelty-free synthetic bristles with a durable aluminum handle. The brush helps lift and soften the hair, gently prepare the skin and distribute shaving soap or cream evenly. It is available in coordinating colors to match the razors.

Natu Natural Shaving Soap produces a smooth, protective lather using plant-based oils, shea butter, glycerin and vitamin E. Its fresh natural scent blends lemongrass and orange with warm cedar, without added synthetic fragrance. The soap can be lathered traditionally with a shaving brush or applied without one for a quicker, more convenient shave.

A More Approachable Way to Make the Switch
What appeals to us about Natu is that the founders didn’t simply set out to make another safety razor. They used their engineering experience and years of customer feedback to solve a very real problem: how to make shaving more sustainable and economical without sacrificing convenience. Natu fills an important space between a traditional safety razor and a disposable cartridge system. It offers contour-following ease, affordable nonproprietary blades, durable all-metal construction and considerably less plastic waste—all in a thoughtfully designed shaving system made in Portugal.

Whether you’re completely new to single-edge shaving or simply want an easier razor for shaving from head to toe, Natu makes the switch feel much less intimidating.
